Bold Iron & Natural Stone

Our Past Projects

This full-property landscape design + build wrapped a Rathdrum home in bold wrought iron fencing and layered it with natural touches—from a dry river bed out front to a custom natural gas fire feature in the back. Mega Arbel pavers, moss rock boulder walls, and a carefully curated plant package give the entire property a feel like it belongs deep in the North Idaho woods. Built with rugged beauty and everyday function in mind, this transformation came together in just a few weeks.

Location: Rathdrum, Idaho

Services: Full Property Landscape Design + Build

Project Duration: A few weeks

Lead Foreman: Branden

Project Overview

This full-property transformation in Rathdrum was designed to bring a sense of natural, woodland character to every corner of the lot. The homeowners had a clear vision—dramatic wrought iron fencing to define the property and standout features that felt grounded in nature, not overdone. Our team at Cross Creek delivered a design that balances bold structural elements with organic textures and plantings, creating a property that feels like it was carved right out of the Idaho landscape.

Client Goals

  • Define the full property with a large-scale wrought iron perimeter fence
  • Create a dedicated fire feature area for gathering and entertaining
  • Incorporate natural materials and plantings that complement the wooded surroundings
  • Design a cohesive look across the entire property—front and back

Key Features

  • Dry River Bed: A natural-style dry creek bed at the front of the property adds visual interest and manages drainage with rugged, organic appeal
  • Natural Gas Fire Feature: A custom-built fire feature in the backyard provides instant ambiance—connected to the home's gas line for easy, reliable use
  • Mega Arbel Pavers: Large-format natural stone pavers create defined walkways and gathering areas with a rustic, timeless look
  • Moss Rock Boulder Walls: Stacked boulder retaining walls add structure and elevation changes that feel like natural outcroppings rather than built features
  • Wrought Iron Perimeter Fence: A large-scale black wrought iron fence surrounds the property, adding dramatic curb appeal and security (installed by a partnered contractor as part of the overall project vision)
  • Curated Plant Package: A layered mix of Japanese Maples, Limelight Hydrangeas, Quaking Aspens, Butterfly Bush, Karl Foerster Feather Reed Grass, Boulder Blue Fescue, and flowering perennials like Balloon Flower and Appleblossom Phlox—all selected to thrive in North Idaho and reinforce the natural woodland feel

Execution

Led by Foreman Branden, the crew was on-site early and put in full days to keep the project moving efficiently. From grading and resloping to boulder wall construction, paver installation, and final plantings, the team delivered quality craftsmanship across the entire property in just a few weeks. Clear communication and a respectful, professional presence on-site made the process seamless for the homeowners.

Client Feedback

Why It Works

This project is a great example of how natural materials and intentional design can transform an entire property—not just a backyard. The combination of bold iron fencing, native stone, and woodland-inspired plantings creates a cohesive look that feels both dramatic and perfectly at home in the North Idaho landscape.
