At Cross Creek Landscape Design + Build, we love nothing more than transforming underutilized spaces into vibrant outdoor retreats. Recently, we had the opportunity to revitalize a client's backyard, turning it from a vast, undefined grassy area with a deteriorating deck into a stunning outdoor oasis.

The Vision

Our client came to us with a dream: a backyard that wasn't just a yard, but an extension of their home—a place for cooking, entertaining, and relaxing. They envisioned an outdoor kitchen, a natural gas fire feature, and a brand-new deck that would seamlessly connect these elements with the landscape. Additionally, they wanted paver stone pathways and lush landscaping beds to add beauty and structure to their space.

Before: A Blank Slate

Before we began, the yard was a large, open space of grass with no clear definition or purpose. The existing back deck was rotting and unsafe, limiting the potential for outdoor enjoyment. Here are some of the before photos:

• A wide expanse of grass, begging for design and functionality.
• The old deck, weathered and in need of replacement.
• A lack of pathways and landscaping, leaving the area feeling incomplete.

The Transformation

We set to work, first by carefully removing the old deck and grading the land to prepare for the new features. Our team designed a beautiful new deck made of durable, weather-resistant materials that complements the home's aesthetic.

For the outdoor kitchen, we installed high-quality appliances and countertops that are perfect for entertaining family and friends. The natural gas fire feature became the focal point of a cozy seating area, providing warmth and ambiance during cooler evenings.

Paver stone pathways now gracefully connect the kitchen and fire feature, guiding guests through the space with ease. Finally, we installed landscaping beds filled with vibrant plants and flowers, adding bursts of color and texture around the property.
